Girish Chandra Ghosh was a famous dramatist who lived a restless life filled with alcohol and worldly pleasures. When he approached Sri Ramakrishna, he confessed that he could not follow strict spiritual disciplines, meditate regularly or even pray at fixed times.
Sri Ramakrishna offered him a simple solution.
Sri Ramakrishna: Then give me your Power of Attorney. Hand over the responsibility for your spiritual life to me.
Girish: Does that mean I don’t need to meditate, pray or follow any spiritual rules?
Sri Ramakrishna: Yes. But remember, from now on, everything happens through God’s will. Surrender yourself completely and leave the responsibility to me.
Girish thought he had found the easiest path to God. But soon he realised that complete surrender was harder than spiritual discipline. He could no longer act freely out of anger, desire or ego, as he had surrendered his will to his Master. Gradually, this transformed him into a deeply devoted disciple.
